Several thousand people protested on the Old Town Square this Sunday against the government measures related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The attending speakers gave speeches, including the former president Václav Klaus. The whole event lasted for approximately two hours.  The Chcípl PES initiative organized the demonstration called “Otevřeme Česko” (Let’s Open Czechia).  Participants protested with various slogans, such as “Stop COVID tyranny. Let’s stop totalitarianism!”, “We are not sheep”, or “On Monday to school!”. Some protestors came with small children. The protest against the government measures regarding the COVID-19 outbreak turned into a battlefield this Sunday at the Old Town Square. According to Prague City Hall, 2000 people participated in the demonstration, even though only 500 were allowed. Officially, the event was supposed to shut down after 3 pm, since the protesters reached the limit of 500 participants. The police asked demonstrators to leave, but some of them tried to attack the police with pyrotechnics. On Monday, October 5, a protest by restaurant workers took place in the center of Prague. Waiters, bartenders, chefs, and restaurant owners demanded from the government to lift the quarantine measures, which – according to the protestors – scare away the visitors and deprive them of their earnings. According to the current order of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic, catering establishments throughout the country can only work until 22:00.
