This year, candy lovers will have the chance to attend Prague’s second annual candy festival. The title is slightly misleading, as sweets of various kinds will be offered at the festival.
From hot chocolate to cupcakes to raw desserts to muffins to ice cream to cookies to pralines – and a lot more – you can indulge wildly.
According to the website, the festival will offer a rich program of events for adults and kids alike. Two of the attractions will be cake decorating and a baking event. The photo gallery from last year’s festival shows a great many happenings, including face painting, a fashion show, and a demonstration involving melted chocolate.
The gallery also provides a look at some of the goodies on display, including doughnuts, cakes (such as the justly famous Czech honey cake), lollipops, éclairs, pies, cupcakes, cookies, brownies, vegan chocolate bars, cheesecake, and – should the sweetness become a bit too cloying – savory quiche.
The festival has an amusing way of purchasing goods. Rather than using money, you buy units of currency called kendíks. Each kendík is worth 20 crowns. These are used to buy the sweet things that catch your eye and appeal to your taste buds. Should you decide to buy your ticket in advance, you will receive ten kendíks with it.
Tickets can be bought in advance or at the door. An advance ticket costs CZK 350, including the aforementioned ten kendíks. It will also include a raffle ticket. If you buy your ticket at the door, the cost will be CZK 200. Both tickets will give you unlimited entry to both days of the festival and to the accompanying programs.
Senior citizens, as well as children shorter than 130cm, can attend the festival for free. When you enter the premises, you will receive a raffle ticket; the raffle will be held at 12:00, 3:00, and 6:00 on both days of the festival. The website does not state what the prizes will be, merely that they will be “interesting prices” [sic].
It is not at all surprising that one of this year’s vendors will be none other than the Prague-based Candy Store, purveyors of various sweet things from the United States and the United Kingdom.
Other vendors will include Sweetcakes, Passion Hand Made Chocolate, Katie Bakery, Cakeland cupcakes, Cooki.cz, Donut Club, Maci Dorty, Zina’s Coffee, and Tu Kafe.
This year’s festival will be held at Pragovka, which is located in Prague 9, next to the Kolbenova metro station on the B line. If you want to buy your ticket(s) in advance, here is the link.
