The elusive “The World of Banksy — The Immersive Experience” exhibits at Mánes 1 Exhibition Hall from the 5th of June and will run until the 27th of September, showcasing more than 80 works of the brilliant creator. Both copies and original works are presented by an anonymous group of 10 graffiti artists. If you still haven’t gotten a chance to experience the provocative exhibition yourself, we decided to give you a little kick by telling you more about why you should – must! – see Banksy’s works for yourself.

“The World of Banksy — The Immersive Experience” already premiered at Barcelona’s Espacio Trafalgar and at the Espace Lafayette-Drouot in Paris. More than 150,000 people visited the exhibition in Paris. After its initial success, it moved to central Barcelona, also receiving much praise and well-deserved attention.  Finally, it made its way to Prague with hopes of surprising, shocking, and astonishing the visitors just as much.

Banksy is a British graffiti artist, whose identity remains hidden. His works can be found in the most unexpected places starting from London metro and finishing with Jerusalem streets. Banksy dedicates his art to raising attention to issues of poverty, pollution, homelessness, and many others. As such, one of his recent artworks displays a boy playing with a typical-looking superhero – yet the superhero is depicted as a nurse. The piece is currently showcased close to the emergency department of the Southampton general hospital.

In the past, Banksy’s exhibitions were very well-known for being unpredictable and even strongly controversial. During the 2003 exhibition in London, the artist presented his work on pigs while in 2005, he allowed 200 rats into the gallery. In 2006 in Los Angeles, Banksy displayed the exhibition by painting on a live elephant. And if you feel like those stunts are small: immediately after one of his most famous paintings Girl With Balloon sold at an auction for over £1m, Banksy caused it to self-destroy by activating a shredder hidden in the frame. The work was only partially damaged, and the buyer confirmed going through with the purchase despite the shredding. Luckily for her, the painting is estimated to cost even more now, possibly doubling in value.

“The World of Banksy — The Immersive Experience” is an ode to street art and current global issues. It shows how we can empathize with one another regardless of the location – and how human experience unites us across distances. Pay the exhibition a visit and get inspired to take positive action to change the world around you both for yourself and others.
