What is Ratha-Yatra?

Ratha-Yatra is a traditional Indian festival celebrated worldwide by thousands, if not millions, of people. It was initially devoted to Lord Jagannath, known as the Lord of the Universe, on his journey to his aunt’s house. That is why you might hear some people refer to this event as a ‘car festival.’

People celebrate Ratha-Yatra in various ways, yet we will cover the most traditional approach. In other words, the festival is celebrated by the devotees. So, what does it mean? Let’s bring it on!

‘Idols are taken out on a chariot, and the three chariots are pulled by the devotees through the streets of Puri to the Gundicha temple a few kilometers away,’ tells us the old tradition followed by the generations like a mantra.

In Prague, the event will take place on Náměstí Republiky, in a mini-version of the enormous celebration.

Fest agenda

Even though the event starts at 12.00, the real action of the cultural boost will take place at 15.00. It will begin with the presentation and kirtan by Swami, followed by the cultural program, introducing the perks of the Hindi festival and Indian culture.

Visitors could enjoy various musical and dance performances, including Sangita, delivered by children from Rozhledna school and Natyanjali school. Full of a magical vibe, filling the square with its powerful and energetic feelings and emotions.

People would even have an opportunity to perceive the notion of the Kirtan party and what secrets are hidden there. It starts at 18.25 sharply, so don’t be late!
