McDonald’s is celebrating 25 years in the Czech Republic this March, and to celebrate the occasion they’re taking a cue from one of their biggest competitors, reports iDnes.cz.
The very first McDonald’s in the Czech Republic opened on Prague’s Vodičkova street back in March of 1992. It was one of the first global fast food chains to debut in the newly-formed country, and a Drive-Thru on the D1 followed in ‘93.
Since then, the fast food giant has become one of the most-popular fast food locales along Czech highways and in shopping centers, with nearly 100 locations across the country.
To celebrate 25 years in the Czech Republic, McDonald’s will be trying something new: giving customers the ability to “build their own burger” by choosing exactly what toppings they want on their Big Mac.
The concept has been previously tested in Australia and select European markets.
At select locations across the country, customers will be able to specify exactly what they want on their burger at new self-service kiosks. Some of the more unusual choices include grilled Hermelín cheese, jalapeňos, nachos, and beetroot.
“In selected restaurants over the next five weeks, customers can try building a burger according to their own taste,” said Tomasz Rogacz, CEO of McDonald’s Czech Republic and Slovakia.
“If the freedom to choose burger ingredients catches on among Czechs, we plan to introduce it to other restaurants.”
Rogacz did not specify which restaurants would be among the first to offer the new build-your-burger option.
Of course, the option to ‘Have it Your Way’ is most-synonymous with McDonald’s biggest competitor, Burger King, who used the slogan for 40 years before retiring it in 2014.
