The origin story of the AnonymouS group is shrouded in mystery and intrigue, much like the dark comics and historical figures from which they draw inspiration. Begun in 2012 by two brothers, who prefer to remain (as you guessed it) anonymous, the AnonymouS group sets itself apart from other nightlife offerings by creating atmospheres and menus that are fine tuned down to the last detail. The AnonymouS group elevates the classic cocktail bar to an experience. Their Shrink’s Office, in particular, combines a totally unique concept with luxurious surroundings that make you feel as if you’ve found an upscale speakeasy. And, you do have to “find” it. The Shrink’s Office, of course, offers the same privacy offered any patient looking for a cure.

First of all, there’s a secret door. That alone makes you feel like, “I know people.” Behind that are stairs leading down to quite possibly the best smelling lounge in Prague. It’s dark, intimate, with overstuffed leather couches and full bookcases. If you come for only one thing, come to see the menu. It’s unlike any cocktail experience you’ve had before. The menu isn’t really a menu at all, but a stack of Rorschach inspired inkblot cards and a gorgeous handmade book describing five patients, their ailments (think depression, anxiety, and phobias), along with suggested traditional cures. Not one mention of whiskey or lavender or bitters or rum. Just…words and visual aids. It’s then up to you, the “patient”, to look through the cards and read the other patient’s issues, to decide which of the images and feelings speak most to you. The “therapist” takes that information into account (as well as allergies and if there’s an alcohol you absolutely hate) to create the perfect cocktail “cure.” It’s really quite an ingenious concept and makes your choice feel as unique as it is original. It’s surprising to see how a feeling or ailment can reflect in a cocktail, but in this instance, it works. My choice of a dark, blood red splattered inkblot led to a whiskey cocktail that tasted as dark and rich as my inkblot looked. General manager Jaroslav Modlík sums up their creative philosophy perfectly when he says, “for us…it’s not just a cocktail.” And it isn’t, but to find out, you must arrange an appointment at the Shrink’s Office.
