Prague’s surging real estate prices overflowed into the suburbs despite ongoing economic damage from the Covid-19 restrictions. As of October 1st, 2020, the amount of Czech cottages sold grew by 12.6% compared to last year.  The prices of cottages in the Czech Republic went up by 28.5 %, according to Czech real estate brokerage Reas.  “Besides the coronavirus crisis, the reduction of mortgage interest rates and the anticipated abolition of the property acquisition tax are also greatly helping recreational style real estate,” said Michal Makoš, CEO of Reas. On Tuesday, the government met to agree on postponing reopening schools of all levels, including primary school facilities. The Minister of Health, Roman Prymula, officially declared this decision during the press conference, even though he earlier suggested that something as extraordinary as having a nuclear power plant explode would have to happen for such a turn of events. According to the original plan, pupils were supposed to return to school on Monday, November 2nd. Yet, because of the worsening epidemiological situation, it is not anymore possible.
